What is Photoshop Graphic Design?

Photoshop graphic design is, as the title suggests, the process of designing something in Photoshop.

It can range from creating a single logo to producing an entire website layout – and everything between those two extremes.

You can also use it for touching up or restoring old family snapshots (see: CreativeLive: Photoshop Restoration Course) or making your own digital paintings (see: CreativeLive: Photoshop Painting Tutorials).

A typical desktop publishing project might be an ad for a local business. A brochure is another example; you may be hired by a car dealer to produce a colorful pamphlet that describes each car on the lot and includes photos of most makes and models.

Business cards are another type of project; these often include contact information for the cardholder, as well as a logo or other identifying graphic.

A website design project might include designing all of the graphics that will be used on the site, as well as creating the HTML and CSS code to put everything together.

Adobe recently updated Photoshop to CC (Creative Cloud). This update brought many changes; some good, some bad.

The great news is that it doesn’t really change anything for you or your workflow. You can still open PSD files created in CS6 and earlier.

They should look the same when opened in either version of the software. Your actions, brushes, swatches – everything will be exactly where you left them unless you’ve changed something manually on your own.

So don’t worry about having an older version than what’s required – just get started! You can download Adobe Photoshop CC here if you don’t already it installed on your computer.
